Chimborazo Hospital, built in Richmond, Virginia, at the beginning of
the American Civil War, has often been cited for its importance to the Confederate
Medical Department. History professor Carol C. Green discovered a large repository
of Chimborazo Hospital records (123 volumes) and other hospital records (66
volumes) residing in the National Archives in Washington, DC. Using these
and other primary sources, she presents for the first time a comprehensive
account of the development and operation of that hospital.
