Reports last month of outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza
in poultry in Russia and Kazakhstan indicate that the virus has expanded its
geographic range, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Outbreaks
of H5N1 infection were also reported in wild migratory birds in Mongolia and
in poultry in Tibet (http://www.who.int/csr/don/2005_08_18/en/print.html).
