Although fewer than 50 deaths have been directly attributed to radiation
from the 1986 nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, nearly
4000 more people may eventually die from radiation-related cancers, according
to a report by the Chernobyl Forum, a collaboration between United Nations
agencies and the governments of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia (http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Focus/Chernobyl/).
