South Korean stem cell researcher, Woo Suk Hwang, DVM, PhD, resigned from his position at Seoul National University last month after a university committee concluded he had intentionally fabricated much of the data in what had been hailed as a groundbreaking research article published in 2005 in Science (Hwang WS et al. Science. 2005;308:1777-1783). In the article, Hwang and colleagues had claimed they had established stem cell lines from several individuals, achieved in each case by transferring the nucleus of a somatic cell from the individual into an enucleated human egg.
