Kathleen Uhl, MD, has been selected as the director of the Office of Women's Health of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Her appointment followed the August 31 departure of her predecessor, Susan Wood, PhD, who resigned to protest the FDA's announcement that it would delay a decision on allowing over-the-counter sales of the “morning-after” emergency contraceptive, Plan B. Wood said she could “no longer serve as staff when scientific and clinical evidence, fully evaluated and recommended for approval by the professional staff here, has been overruled.”
