In October 2004 I drew your attention to The Medical Society of London 1773-2003, the society's founder, John Coakley Lettsom (1744-1815), and his friendship with American academic physicians of his time.1 I now draw attention to three new and eminently readable histories of British Medicine.
The Royal College of Physicians of London has published the fourth volume of its history. The previous three volumes covered this most ancient of English medical institutions from its founding in 1518 to 1947.
