Medicaid Waste, Fraud Alleged

JAMA. 2006;296(6):644. doi:10.1001/jama.296.6.644-d

A new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report said steps taken by the CMS to improve its Medicaid financial management activities have not stopped waste, fraud, and abuse in the program and other oversight weaknesses uncovered in a 2002 GAO report had yet to be addressed.

The report, “Medicaid Financial Management: Steps Taken to Improve Federal Oversight but Other Actions Needed to Sustain Efforts” (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d06705.pdf), was issued on June 30.
