To the Editor: The cover story by Dr Southgate1 discussing Baseball at Night contains 3 errors. First, Schoolboy Rowe's real name was not “Preacher,” but Lynwood. Elwin Roe, another pitcher, was known as Preacher.2

Second, the unreferenced statement “Satchel [Paige] ended Dizzy's [Dean] 30-game winning streak” does not appear credible. Using data from Retrosheet,3 it is very difficult to believe that even with exhibition and 2 World Series games, Dean could have won 30 straight games after he lost to the Cubs on August 12.
