The National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute announced that they will begin sequencing the genes of 3 cancers—lung, brain (glioblastoma), and ovarian cancer—in the pilot phase of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project (http://cancergenome.nih.gov). TCGA, launched last December, is a collaborative 3-year pilot project to test the feasibility of using large-scale genomic analysis technologies to determine the important genetic changes involved in cancer.
