This paper is the result of a personal conversation in October last, the participants being our Chairman and Secretary and myself. We met in Philadelphia, at the invitation of the Chairman, to discuss the program for this meeting.
Among other matters, ocular disturbances from various toxic influences were considered. The papers which have already appeared were reviewed, and especially the pioneer work of de Schweinitz with his chemical helpers, Edsall and Fife. These researches, it will be recalled, had to do with inflammatory lesions, specially those of the uveal tract. We thought of lid, conjunctival and various functional anomalies of the ciliary structure, things of daily observation, which resist local treatment, are prone to relapse, and which are not uncommonly associated with those remote symptoms which de Schweinitz has aptly defined as "conjectural."
