In Reply Dr Reinhard and Ms Levine emphasize the central role that family caregivers play in the health of their loved ones. They are correct in highlighting that family and other so-called informal caregivers provide a majority of care across the domains of health: medical, functional, psychosocial, and environmental.1
We join them in advocating for better recognition and support for the essential care provided by unpaid caregivers.2,3 Our algorithm, designed primarily for use by clinicians, is offered as one part of this important process.
