Abstract

The introductory chapter in this book is an address by Dr. John A. Kolmer on "The Nature of the Complement Fixation Reaction in Syphilis in Relation to the Standardization of Technic," which was read before the New York Academy of Medicine, Dec. 20, 1921, and republished from the American Journal of the Medical Sciences. The following thirty-two chapters represent the work done by Kolmer and his associates at the Research Institute of Cutaneous Medicine, Philadelphia, in developing the Kolmer modification of the Wassermann test. These were all published in the American Journal of Syphilis between 1919 and 1922, inclusive. This book is therefore a collection of reprints. The Journal has already commented editorially on the Kolmer technic (Sept. 23, 1922, p. 1051), and published an article by Schamberg and Greenbaum (March 24, 1923, p. 836), who concluded, after considerable clinical experience, that the Kolmer test was an invaluable advance in
