Abstract

The growth of biology is also essentially that of medicine, to which it is fundamental. Locy's story of this growth is above all, a presentation in proper perspective of the growth of many sciences dealing with living organisms. It may be considered as of the highest accuracy, since the author has constantly consulted original sources in order to verify his observations, and since he presents the language of such original sources whenever it can be given without distortion of its relative importance. This is a most useful book for any one wishing to obtain a general survey of the history of the modern medical sciences.
