The first edition of this book appeared in 1921. So great was its success that it passed through six printings and demanded a second edition, which is represented by the present volume. It is actually an encyclopedia on the present status of our knowledge of evolution culled from many sources. It includes even a brief chapter on the Scopes trial and the present questioning of our knowledge and beliefs in this field. For the student of biology or the general reader it is perhaps the most valuable volume on the subject. A glossary and a good bibliography supplement the text.
