This book has been prepared to present a complete picture of cancer from a clinical, pathologic and therapeutic point of view in a manner adapted to the needs of the medical student. The compression necessary for so ambitious a scheme has resulted in the use of illustrations that are small and almost entirely diagrammatic. Photomicrographs have been eliminated because the quality of the paper and the small size of the page do not permit of favorable reproduction. Within these limits the book is satisfactory because of the immense amount of ground covered. Obviously a dogmatic and abbreviated style is necessary, but it is astonishing how much has been compressed within a small space. While the views expressed on pathology and the clinical aspects of cancer follow the conventional lines, those on treatment are, on the whole, confined closely to the French practice.
