This monograph on peripheral nerve tumors has been presented in application for the chair of privatdozent in the pathologic department of the Medical School of São Paulo, Brazil, and constitutes the third of a series on tumors of the nervous system. In the two previous monographs the author treated the subjects of gliomas and meningiomas. The work is written in Portuguese. The author first explains the anatomic and histologic particularities of the peripheral nerves. He then briefly reviews the different concepts of the etiology of peripheral nerve tumors, from the pioneer work of Cheselden to the present time. The subject matter is arranged from the clinical point of view, and in successive chapters the author discusses (i) traumatic neuroma, (ii) solitary tumors of the nerves, (iii) multiple tumors of the nerves, (iv) malignant tumors of the nerves and (v) multiple tumors of nerves (von Recklinghausen's disease).
