Payne Palmer, Phoenix, Ariz., discussed "Emergency Treatment of Surgical Abdominal Traumas" before the Hollywood Academy of Medicine, June 12.—Dr. Jacob Kasanin, San Francisco, discussed "A Study of the Disturbances of Intellect in Schizophrenia" before the Los Angeles Society of Neurology and Psychiatry, May 21.
Hickman Medal Awarded.—
Dr. Arthur E. Guedel, Los Angeles, has been awarded the Hickman Medal of the Royal Society of Medicine, according to the Lancet. Mr. John G. Winant, the American ambassador, was to receive the medal for Dr. Guedel at a meeting of the society, June 5. Dr. Guedel, who specializes in anesthesia, received the award on the recommendation of the section of anesthesia of the Royal society. He graduated at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, in 1908.
