The first edition of this book appeared in 1923. The subject matter has been carefully revised but the book has not been materially increased in size; however, 187 new illustrations have been added. The arrangement of the material and the manner of presenting the subject are the same. The book is an exposition of surgical physical examination and an atlas of surgical diagnosis. It presents the subject in a practical manner and is designed particularly for medical students and general practitioners. One of the most valuable features is instruction in special methods of palpation in pathologic conditions in various regions of the body. The author contemplated producing such a work more than twenty years ago and has collected and presents a magnificent atlas of surgical pathology collected from his own cases.
