Senators Urge Appropriation of Funds for Gun Violence Research at the CDC

JAMA. 2016;315(18):1938. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.5311

Seventeen Democratic senators wrote the leaders of an appropriations subcommittee urging that they earmark $10 million for gun violence research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in fiscal year 2017 (http://1.usa.gov/1RwuZMr).

Since 1996, the annual appropriations bill has included a provision stating, “None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.”
