To the Editor Increasingly, evidence demonstrates the health benefits of plant-based diets that eliminate or greatly reduce meat intake.1 Additional ethical and environmental dilemmas surrounding meat production provide impetus to reconsider the consumption of meat. Despite this context, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans from the US Department of Agriculture2,3 fail to articulate the common-sense recommendation that Americans should move toward a plant-based pattern of eating.
