Kratom Products Seized

JAMA. 2016;316(11):1142. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.12571

Federal marshals seized more than 100 cases of a potentially addictive botanical supplement that has been linked with respiratory depression, vomiting, nervousness, weight loss, and constipation.

Marshals confiscated the products in early August from a discount cigarette store in Grover Beach, California, where the distributor, Nature Therapeutics LLC, is located. A complaint from the US Department of Justice on behalf of the FDA alleged that the products are unapproved new drugs and misbranded drugs under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (http://bit.ly/2aH7Rx4).
