The Senate Appropriations Committee recently recommended that the National Library of Medicine (NLM) should receive a substantial increase in funding in fiscal year (FY) 2017. The bill that the committee sent to the Senate floor to fund the Department of Health and Human Services would give the NLM $16.5 million more than the FY 2016 allotment of $395.7 million, with the proviso that $4 million of the increase be spent on upgrading information systems. The House’s bill is slightly less generous, but still gives the NLM an increase of 2%.
