In the last 10 years, the number of child refugees has more than doubled so that currently children make up more than half of the world’s refugees, despite the fact that they constitute about a third of the global population. Close to 50 million children have migrated across borders or have been displaced internally as the result of wars, climate change, and poverty, according to a report by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Uprooted: The growing crisis for refugee and migrant children.
