More than 1 in 4 US adults younger than 65 years has a preexisting medical condition that would have made qualifying for individual health insurance all but impossible under the underwriting practices in place before the Affordable Care Act, according to a study released in mid-December by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
