Since the publication of the first edition of this book, a national nutrition program has been outlined; the National Research Council has set up its recommended daily allowances for specific nutrients. The new edition of this book reflects this progress. Moreover, there have been additions to the known vitamins, especially in the field of the so-called vitamin B complex. The present edition calls attention to these additions and makes available references to the periodical literature on the subject.
