Pas de deux

JAMA. 2017;317(10):1082. doi:10.1001/jama.2016.18397

Provenance of birds and the cleaving arc of flight—
winged scapula glides above the rib cage
with only a shallow dock for its lifelong embrace
of our most dextrous limb.

All the humeral heads turning
in a ring shaped fossa.
It’s a high stakes relationship,
tethered with firm ligaments,
buttressed by the slim clavicle
and wrapped tight in a capsule,
like Vitruvian man.
