To the Editor I disagree with Dr Bauchner’s Editorial proposing that health care coverage in the United States is a right.1 It is neither a right nor a privilege but rather a shared responsibility.
Bauchner began by highlighting “health care coverage” but also refers to the right to “health care.” However, terms such as coverage, access, and care should not be interchanged. The real metric is not the number of citizens with coverage; it is their health, their care. Coverage and access are only means to that end.
