Abstract

In this volume the editor has collected for teaching purposes a vast amount of published material on the main topic that the book discusses. He illustrates actual standards of living, the struggle to raise standards of groups, standards of home economics, the appraisal of luxuries, family budgets, the cost of children, the cost of medical care, the problem of birth control, and innumerable similar topics. The work is essentially a textbook for students of sociology, made of selected readings and supplemented by bibliographies and intelligent questions.
