All Ears

JAMA. 2017;318(4):394. doi:10.1001/jama.2017.1593

Twin auricles—
rimmed helix, canted antihelix, curving together
above the deep hollow of the concha.
Each hung with a pendant lobe,

The external ear, catch all for sound,
deftly entraining its passing score
behind the baffle of the tragus,
down dark auditory canals, sinking deep
into the skull’s interior.
