Where do the words go that are never told
or written, chanted, hummed, or planted
like seeds in tender earth?
Do they become the wings of butterflies
or all the beings who have gone extinct?
Where do they lie or fly—less ephemeral than air
with its heaviness and weft that weaves
our trees together with our breath?
What becomes of nothingness
which is unspoken, or all the beings
who have been?
And when?
