This "short, concise outline" with blank interleaves apparently was compiled for the author's students and doubtless will be of use to them. Some portions of the outline reflect early books and superseded procedures. The only harm which could come from publication of such a book would be the stimulation of incapable persons to practice proctology, using this imperfect outline as their guide. Although the author feels that his work "should prove of interest to the general practitioner as well as to the student," doubtless he did not intend that it should be used as a working manual by those not trained in proctology.
