Quiver of air against the tympanum
unsettles the body’s smallest bones
whose tap starts ripples in the well
where weedy cells, like fronds within a pool
swayed by the step of water-thrush on twig,
magnify motion. Membrane through molecule,
a leap of voltage leads a pilgrim march
into a temporal convexity
confessing music. This may be
anatomy’s holiday, its work
hewn by a fiercer need.
