To the Editor Dr Jeong and colleagues compared usage and outcomes of laparoscopic vs robotic-assisted radical nephrectomy.1 The robotic approach has, over the course of a decade, nearly overtaken laparoscopy for renal surgery in urology. Without question, marketing2 and hospital competition3 have played roles in this trend. We share the authors' concern for overuse of robotic surgery in light of its increased cost and equivalent outcomes.
