From this mantle of my life
in which I’ve cloaked my dreams
I now must shed and shake away the dust
of what had once seemed permanent
as if such things could be—
As if the free less fettered years of childhood
still grew in me as slowly as they ever had
when once I lay upon the grass
within the scent of pines and moss and seeds
and was at home.
