The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) launched AAS Open Research, a platform for rapid publication and open peer review to showcase cutting edge scientific research by investigators on the African continent who are affiliated with the AAS and programs supported through its funding platform, the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA).
In its first appearance, AAS Open Research featured 13 scholarly articles that cover a range of topics related to the life sciences and medicine. One study focuses on naturally acquired immune response and malaria treatment outcomes in Nigeria, another on hearing loss induced by large-scale mining in South Africa, and a third on transgenerational effects of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Authors of these studies hail from across the African continent, including the University of Cape Town, the University of Ghana, and Makerere University, in Uganda.
