A smartphone app modestly improved medication adherence in patients with poorly controlled hypertension but led to no change in systolic blood pressure, found a trial in JAMA Internal Medicine.
The 411 participants, who were taking 1 to 3 antihypertensive medications, were randomly assigned to the Medisafe app or to a control group (no intervention). The Medisafe app includes medication reminder alerts, adherence reports, and optional peer support.
