FDA Prods “Clean Meat” Discussion

JAMA. 2018;320(3):228. doi:10.1001/jama.2018.9507

The FDA has launched a public discussion on the safe development of so-called cultured food, specifically meat, poultry, and seafood made from cells collected from animals and grown in a laboratory.

As this issue of JAMA went to press, the agency had scheduled a July 12 meeting to discuss potential regulatory approaches toward food-producing animal-cell culture technology and offer the public and other stakeholders an opportunity to comment.
