To the Editor In the review article on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by Dr Fan and colleagues,1 the authors mentioned that “more-direct and reproducible methods of measuring pulmonary vascular permeability and extravascular lung water are needed.”1 Although they implied that these variables are not available yet, 2 hemodynamic monitoring systems that allow bedside estimation of extravascular lung water (EVLW) and pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI) are currently available worldwide.2-5
