No Prescription Needed?

JAMA. 2018;320(7):634. doi:10.1001/jama.2018.11596

The FDA has issued draft guidance outlining ways in which some prescription drugs could be made available to consumers without a prescription.

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, said the agency’s “hope is that the steps we’re taking to advance this new, more modern framework will contribute to lower costs for our health care system overall and provide greater efficiency and empowerment for consumers by increasing the availability of certain products that would otherwise be available only by prescription.”
