The rate of severe maternal morbidity in US hospitals increased 45% between 2006 and 2015, according to a recent report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
During that 10-year period, the severe maternal morbidity rate increased from 101 per 10 000 delivery hospitalizations to 147 per 10 000, the authors found, noting that previous studies have concluded that the rising rate might be due to changes in women’s overall health.
