The CDC and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has secured commitments from more than 100 companies, professional societies, and other organizations to participate in a global challenge to reduce antibiotic resistance.
The challenge was announced September 25, 2018, in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly Meeting in New York at a gathering hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the United Nations Foundation, Wellcome Trust, and the CDC Foundation. It calls on pharmaceutical and insurance companies, the food industry, clinicians, health officials, and others to work together. The goals of the project are to reduce antibiotic resistance, improve antibiotic prescribing, prevent and control infections, and develop new antimicrobial vaccines, drugs, and diagnostic tests.
