In Reply Dr Hoffer takes issue with statements in our review1 regarding the role of IVC filters in the management of venous thromboembolism.
Based on the results of the PREPIC and PREPIC2 studies, current practice guidelines (2016 American College of Chest Physicians and 2014 European Society of Cardiology) recommend against the use of IVC filters in patients with acute venous thromboembolism who can be treated with anticoagulation.2,3
