Abstract

DEFERMENT OF MEDICAL AND PREMEDICAL STUDENTS  The following bill, S. 637, was introduced February 26 in the Senate of the United States by Mr. Ellender and referred to the Committee on Military Affairs:

A Bill  To authorize the release of persons from active military service, and the deferment of persons from military service, in order to aid in making possible the education and training of physicians and dentists to meet essential needs.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, to the extent that the President deems to be (1) feasible, (2) compatible with military operations, and (3) necessary or desirable in order to make possible the education and training as physicians and dentists of as many persons as are necessary to provide the minimum number of medical doctors and dentists required to meet the essential needs
