A late night phone call.
Haste and calm,
and trembling given back.
Preparations,
now forlorn,
an unforeseen attack.
Introductions,
him and her –
but only until day.
That night, upright,
we be. First light
and all is yesterday.
Another being,
a distillation
of joy and broken plates.
Of coexistence,
meals shared,
to now, to this, to fate.
