The former "Handbook of Anaesthetics" by Ross and Fairlie was revised in a fifth edition in 1940 by R. J. Minnitt. This, the sixth edition, has been rearranged and largely rewritten by R. J. Minnitt of Liverpool and John Gillies of Edinburgh. The scope of the book has been considerably extended to conform to the change in name to "Textbook of Anaesthetics." In general, the authors are to be congratulated on the changes and additions. It is now a book which probably is honestly and fairly representative of the thought and practice among a majority of British anesthetists. Certain points of disagreement with the opinions held in this country are present and to be expected. That the effort deserves to be called a textbook of anesthetics would be questioned by many. As a pleasant and profitable means of familiarizing oneself with modern British practice in anesthesiology, it should prove useful
