HHS Funds Development of Antibiotic to Treat Anthrax

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently issued the first Project BioShield contract to fund research to support the use of an existing antibiotic to treat inhalational anthrax exposure.

Former President George W. Bush signed the Project BioShield Act in 2004 to accelerate research, development, purchase, and availability of medical countermeasures against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents.
