To the Editor In the Fluid Loading in Abdominal Surgery: Saline vs Hydroxyethyl Starch (FLASH) trial,1 the sex ratio in both groups was very unbalanced, with 88% of participants being male and 12% female, for a ratio of 7.5 to 1. Other investigations2-4 did not have comparable sex distributions, with ratios being more or less equal.
