In Reply Mr Sang and Dr Xu discuss potential explanations for the lack of benefit seen in our study with the use of sodium nitrite during resuscitation after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.1 They cite 2 potential reasons for this lack of benefit: a delay in nitrite administration compared with animal studies and a potential benefit of sodium nitrite in certain subgroups of patients.
