For those who are of the opinion that dermatology as a branch of medicine is threatened with extinction and that the future dermatologist may become a cosmetician the present volume will prove of interest. The title closen by Dr. Gumpert implies a broader conception of the subject, including the correction of cosmetic defects by operative procedures. There are chapters on the disfiguring skin diseases, on the technic of physical methods as applied in the cosmetic therapy of the skin, and a discussion of the varied medicinal agents used in the care of the normal and the diseased skin and its appendages. This book can be recommended as a sound, practical exposition of a phase of dermatology that is all too frequently left to the laity or to charlatans.
