Lagergren, working in the clinic of Dr. Nils Antoni at Stockholm, has devised an apparatus for simultaneously measuring and recording the respiratory movements of the thorax and the alterations in pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid in the cisterna magna and in the lumbar sac. The present monograph represents the study of 155 cases in which this apparatus was used. Of this number only seventy-two cases have proved useful for analysis. The monograph undoubtedly represents much time and effort spent in this study. It is regretted that the material is so verbosely presented. The observations, interpretations and conclusions could with great advantage have been presented in a maximum of fifty pages. Few readers will find or give the time necessary to obtain the small amount of real information present. There are no revolutionary ideas presented.
